Red Barry was a violent, fast-paced comic strip that first appeared in newspapers in 1934. Its popularity made it a natural choice to come to the screen as a movie serial in 1938. Larry (Buster) Crabbe, star of the immensely popular Flash Gordon serial two years earlier, was chosen to portray the tough-talking two-fisted cop Red Barry. Through 13 slam-bang chapters, Barry fights to recover two million dollars of stolen bonds intended for allied war planes from the various factions fighting over them, including international spies and ruthless underworld gangsters. The bullets fly and so do the fists as Red Barry is on the job!
Red Barry is one of those serials of which a perfect print has not been found--YET! Although the picture quality of our print is good, the sound is a little muffled. One thing is for sure though--until a better print turns up, this DVD will be the best version of Red Barry you can find!
